Two people lost their lives November 17 in separate car accidents in Prince George’s County. Details of both overnight accidents are as follows.
A two-car accident along Interstate 95 left one person dead around 3:30 a.m. Sunday morning, November 17. Maryland State Police responded to the scene of the accident along the northbound lanes of the Inter-County Connector near College Park.
According to a preliminary police report, Christian Allen Knight, a 22-year-old man from Olney, was traveling southbound in the northbound lanes of the highway. As he continued the wrong way down the road, his 2006 Nissan Altima crashed head-on into a northbound tractor-trailer.
Knight was pronounced dead at the scene of the accident. The tractor-trailer driver, who has not been identified, was taken to Laurel Regional Hospital as a precaution. Police closed down the northbound lanes of the highway to conduct an accident reconstruction; the investigation is ongoing.
The second fatal accident occurred a mere two hours later in Fort Washington. This time, Prince George’s County Police responded to the scene of a single-vehicle accident in the 12700 block of Livingston Road around 5:30 a.m.
Asa M. Hernandez, a 26-year-old man from Waldorf, was headed northbound on the road when, for reasons unknown, he lost control of his vehicle and left the road. Hernandez crashed into a utility pole and was unresponsive when police arrived on the scene. He was taken to a nearby hospital, where he was later pronounced dead. Police believe that speed may have been a factor in the accident. Hernandez was not wearing a seat belt.
We express our sympathies to the families of Mr. Knight and Mr. Hernandez in their time of grief.
