A head-on collision in the early morning hours of April 16 left one person with serious injuries and two more with minor injuries.

According to a preliminary report from the Anne Arundel County Police, Marc Blumfield, 63, of Laurel, was driving a Chevrolet Traverse westbound on Bay Front Road at about 1:00 a.m. on Saturday. At the same time, Adam Harman, 37, of West River, was driving eastbound on the same road in his Honda Civic.

As the vehicles traveled toward each other near the intersection of Bay Front Road and Solomon's Island Road, Harman's vehicle swerved slightly into the westbound lane, veering directly into the path of the oncoming Chevrolet.

To avoid crashing into the Honda, Blumfield swerved out of his lane into the eastbound lane. However, Harman corrected his mistake at the last second, moving back into his own lane, again directly into the path of the Chevrolet.

The two vehicles collided head-on.

Harman had to be extracted from his vehicle by the Anne Arundel County Fire Department. A Maryland State Police helicopter then airlifted him to the University of Maryland Shock Trauma Center, where he is currently listed in critical condition.

Blumfield and his passenger, 73-year-old Bill Garrup of Washington, D.C., suffered minor injuries in the crash.

Police officials believe alcohol was a factor in the Deale accident.
