A young woman died Aug. 23 from injuries sustained in a single-car accident in Frederick County.
Ashley Michelle Eyler, 18, was driving her red Honda Civic westbound on Good Intent Road near Maryland Highway 194 in Ladiesburg around 11 a.m.
She lost control of the vehicle, crossing the eastbound lanes and nearby railroad tracks before falling off a steep embankment. The vehicle crashed into several trees on the way down and landed upside down.
Eyler and an unnamed 16-year-old passenger were thrown from the vehicle. Police say neither were wearing seat belts.
The two were taken by helicopter to R. Adams Cowley Shock Trauma Center in Baltimore with life-threatening injuries. Eyler died of her injuries shortly after arriving at the trauma center. The passenger
was still in serious condition a day later.
Maryland State Police are still investigating the accident, but they believe speeding and driver error were likely factors in the accident.
Eyler graduated from Walkersville High School in 2011. She was the second teen related to the school to die in the past month. Jacqueline Shayuth, 16, died July 27 in a single-car accident near Woodsboro.
