Patrick Kevin O'Connell, 57, of Ellicott City, was involved in a two-vehicle collision earlier this month, on January 12, 2011.
Police were called to the intersection of MD 32 and Frederick Road in West Friendship just before 10 p.m. on the night of the incident.
Preliminary investigations reportedly uncovered that when O'Connell's Honda Civic was traveling eastbound on Frederick Road, a 2006 Isuzu box truck was traveling southbound on MD 32. The truck proceeded through the intersection during a traffic signal at the same time as O'Connell.
According to police, initial reports indicate that the Isuzu had the right of way. Steven Baker, 50, of Beltsville, was the driver of the Isuzu truck, and was not injured in the crash.
However, the resulting collision ended up costing Patrick Kevin O'Connell his life. He was transported to Maryland Shock Trauma from the scene of the accident, where he passed away last week.
Although the investigation is ongoing, police believe that alcohol may have been a factor in the collision.
