A Montgomery County woman crashed into a liquor store on June 23, scaring the three people inside but injuring no one.
According to Maryland State Police at the Prince Frederick barrack, Mary Harbison, of Rockville, was parked outside of Wemyss Liquors in St. Leonard around 2 p.m.
When she went to put her car into gear, she accidentally pressed the gas pedal instead of the brakes. Her 2009 BMW drove directly into the front door of the liquor store.
Claude Weems, who was watching the store for his son at the time of the accident, was talking to a customer at the checkout counter. One other customer was in a separate wine room.
None of the occupants were close enough to the entrance to be injured.
The staff cleaned up as much of the mess as possible, and the store remained open for the rest of the day despite the gaping hole near the entrance, which is currently covered.
A new door has been ordered, but owner Steve Weems did not yet know the exact total amount of damages from the accident.
He said he knows Harbison well and referred to her as a "sweet woman" who simply made a mistake.
Harbison is being charged with failure to control her vehicle in the incident.
