A female driver and her male passenger died February 1 in a single-vehicle accident in Washington County. The accident occurred during the early morning hours along Cearfoss Pike (Maryland Route 58) in Hagerstown. Details of the fatal Maryland car crash are as follows:

Shawn Ashley Minnick, a 31-year-old woman from Hagerstown, was behind the wheel of a 2002 BMW M3 around 2 a.m. Saturday, February 1, when she lost control of her vehicle. According to Maryland State Police, Minnick was headed westbound along Cearfoss Pike when the accident occurred. It appears that as she tried to pass another vehicle heading the same direction on the highway, she lost control of her vehicle and drove off the left side of the road near Garden View Drive.

The BMW crashed into a utility pole, a telephone utility box, and a large boulder before finally coming to a stop on its roof. Minnick died in the crash, along with her 29-year-old male passenger, Courtney Lee Bridge, whose address was not given.

The Washington County Sheriff’s Office also responded to the scene of the fatal Washington County crash. Maryland State Police are conducting an investigation into the crash. They have not yet released any information regarding the vehicle’s speed or other possible factors that may have contributed to the crash. Anyone with information regarding the crash is asked to call Maryland State Police investigators at 301-766-3800.

We express our sympathy to the family and friends of Ms. Minnick and Mr. Bridge in their time of grief.
