Not all car accidents or personal injuries require the aid of a lawyer. A fender bender resulting in minor injuries can usually be quickly resolved between the parties involved.

Circumstances in which obtaining a lawyer might be to your advantage include:

1. If the insurance company is giving you a hard time.

While most insurance adjusters play fair, they do still have their company's best interests in mind and may be reluctant to give you the full amount you deserve. Some adjusters may drag their feet in paying you damages in a timely manner or may even accuse you of causing the accident in which you were injured. This kind of behavior from the adjuster could be a sign that you should hire an attorney to protect your own interests.

2. If there is a dispute over who caused the accident.

Accidents happen in a matter of seconds, and it can be difficult to determine exactly where the fault lies. This is especially true when there are several contributing factors. For example, a crash could occur with factors such as inclement weather, poor lighting, and mechanical failure. Separating which factors in particular contributed to the accident is difficult; sometimes many factors simultaneously contribute to a crash.

There is also the possibility of one party not being completely honest about the details of the crash.

If the cause of the crash is in dispute for any reason, you may want to hire a lawyer to make sure you are not blamed for something that is not your fault.

3. If you have been seriously injured.

A serious Maryland car crash can leave you with expensive medical bills and a long recovery period. If you or a family member has been severely injured in a car crash, do not try to take on the insurance company yourself.

Leave it to an experienced Maryland injury attorney who knows how to use the legal system to your advantage. This will allow you to focus your time and energy on recovering, and will usually result in more money for you.
