A Pasadena man died March 18 in a multiple vehicle accident that involved a cement truck. Four others were injured in the crash, which occurred along a portion of Route 100 in Anne Arundel County. Details of the fatal Maryland truck crash are as follows:

One person died and four others were injured when a cement truck driver reportedly failed to brake for slowing traffic. Taylor Lee Russell, a 70-year-old man from Owings Mills, was driving a cement truck on eastbound Route 100 around 3:15 p.m. when the accident occurred. As Russell neared the overpass for Waterford Road, he failed to notice traffic stopping in front of him.

The cement truck crashed into the back of one vehicle, which in turn set off a chain reaction, according to a preliminary police investigation. In all, the truck and five other vehicles were involved in the crash. The impact of the crash caused the cement truck to land on top of one of the other vehicles. The driver of that vehicle was identified as 54-year-old Scott Johnston of Pasadena. He died in the crash.

Four other people suffered minor injuries. They are 20-year-old Alexis Gibson of Glen Burnie, 30-year-old Robert Clickner of Pasadena, 47-year-old Laura Taylor of Pasadena and 61-year-old Cathleen Benson of Jessup. One of those injured was taken to a local hospital for treatment of injuries.

A preliminary police investigation suggests that Russell, who was uninjured, was at fault for the accident due to his failure to stop. Police do not believe alcohol or speed were factors in the fatal accident. The investigation is still ongoing.

We express our sympathies to the family of Mr. Johnston in their time of grief and wish a speedy recovery to all those who were injured.
